EASY ACCESSIBILITY

Vir is located in the northwestern part of Dalmatia, 24 km from Zadar. Vir is a small island connected to the mainland by a bridge, with more than 31 km of sandy and pebbly beaches that is available for vacationers free of charge.

The island of Vir is the twentieth largest island in Croatia and the eighth largest island in the Zadar region. Its coastal section is 31.43 km long. Vir island has an area of 22.38 km2, a length of 10.22 km and a width of 4.25 km at its widest part. Its highest point is the 115-meter high Barbenjak hill.The location of the island is optimal, thanks to its Mediterranean climate, the weather is excellent for beaching and sunbathing already in the pre-season and even in the post-season. It is probably due to the beneficial effect of the Adriatic climate and the healthy food that the locals often live to be around 100 years old!

METROPOLITAN AREAS

Its largest settlements are Vir, Lozice, Slatina and Torovi. The island has a population of 1,700 and an area of 22.3 km2. The island of Vir is separated from the mainland by the 300-meter-wide, 3-meter-deep Privlaka channel. Zadar, located 24 km away, has a rich history of 3000 years. The monuments of the city, which used to be the capital of Dalmatia, then still called Zara, can be found in the picturesque old town designated as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The most famous is the monumental, 27-meter-high dome of St. Donat’s church, built at the beginning of the 9th century, which is the most characteristic monument of sacred architecture in Croatia.
